The following supplements can help prevent atherosclerosis as part of a comprehensive approach (diet, exercise); they can also help reduce atherosclerosis once it has developed, when combined with a vegan diet and daily exercise
(dosages are daily doses):
- Vitamin K2: 0.18 mg to 0.25 mg
- Vitamin B complex: at least 50 mg
- Magnesium: 300–500 mg of elemental magnesium (in the form of glycinate, citrate, or taurate; not magnesium oxide)
- Green tea extract: 300–600 mg EGCG
- Curcumin: 500–1000 mg (BCM-95)
- Red yeast rice extract ( a yeast cultured on red rice) is a natural alternative to statins. The recommended dosage is 10–20 mg of monacolin K (the active ingredient in red yeast rice) taken before bedtime. Red yeast rice generally has no side effects.
